Perhaps you have passed through Strafford School during one magical week in the summer. If so, may have noticed the heart-pounding rhythms of African drumming, the arresting voices of young actors, or striking hand-painted scenery on display.

These sounds and sights are the products of Strafford Summer Arts: a weeklong day camp during which students ages 8–14 explore art music, and theatre under the guidance of professionals—including the 2017 winner of the Governor’s Award for Arts Education, Mr. Randy Armstrong!

Randy brings a wide variety—a HUGE vanload—of authentic world instruments from his own personal collection! During the camp, students learn to play multicultural music, as well as sound effects. No prior experience is necessary.

In addition, our town is honored for Strafford Summer Arts to be headed by none other than New Hampshire Theatre Project (NHTP) director Genevieve Aichele. During the camp, Genevieve leads students in dramatic theatre and movement, storytelling, costume design, and set decoration/setup.

We also have AMAZING Coe Brown interns who bring great energy and enthusiasm to the program.

The emphasis of the camp is on collaboration, gaining self-confidence, and developing an appreciation for world cultures through theatre, art, and music. And, of course, fun!
